Recognized as the Leading Sensors Event in North America: The 2014 Sensors Expo & Conference Acclaimed a Success

2015 Event Planned for June 9-11 in Long Beach, CA

Newton, MA, July 1, 2014 – Over 4,500 engineers, scientists, industry professionals, and students from around the world gathered to see the latest innovations in sensing technology at Sensors Expo & Conference, held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL June 24-26. The property of and sponsored by Questex Media, Sensors Expo & Conference is the leading and only event in North America focused exclusively on sensors, related technologies, and sensor-based systems.

"Feedback from our attendees, exhibitors, and speakers has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating that Sensors Expo and Conference is the most important gathering for the industry to discuss sensors driving tomorrow’s solutions,” said Wendy Loew, Event Director. “We look forward to bringing this important industry event to Long Beach, CA June 9-11, 2015 locating the event within reach of CA-based industries such as aerospace and biomedical design that rely heavily on sensors.”

The Sensors Conference Program provided essential, in-depth education and technical sessions to standing-room only audiences. On Tuesday, June 24th, the event began with three full day pre-conference symposia including “Designing MEMS in – How to Engage the Supply Chain” chaired by MEMS Industry Group; “Energy Harvesting for Powering Wireless Sensors Networks,” chaired by Randy Frank & Associates; and “Making the Internet of Things a Reality: A Toolkit for Designing Smart,” chaired by ARM. On Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 the conference program offered tracks focused on Chemical & Gas Sensing; Energy Harvesting for Sensors Applications; IoT: Internet of Things; M2M; MEMS; Novel Approaches to Measurement and Detection; Power Management for Sensor Applications; Sensors @ Work and Wireless.

Attendees gained knowledge and insight from two dynamic keynote speakers:  Luigi Gentile Polese, Senior Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory spoke about "Reimaging Building Sensing and Control" and Dr. Logan Lui, Associate Professor at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and President of MoboSens, LLC presented "MoboSens - Mobile Phone NanoSensor Platform at Molecular Precision for Everyone".

On The Expo Floor the overall consensus from the exhibitors was the event attracted a very strong and qualified audience of sensing technology buyers. Nearly 200 exhibiting companies took part in the MEMS Pavilion & Innovation Area, Energy Harvesting Pavilion, M2M & Wireless Pavilion, and the New Product Showcase. The Expo Floor also included the Sensors Magazine Live Theater, IPSO Challenge 2014, the HPCC Pavilion, the Mouser Electronic Pavilion, and a NEW Bluetooth® Scavenger Hunt sponsored by EM Microelectronic. For the first time attendees voted on the most innovative and exciting technologies they saw using the Sensors Mobile App. The Attendee Choice Awards were presented to EM Microelectronic, HOP Ubiquitous, and ROHM Semiconductor.

Additionally, the 2014 “Best of Sensors Expo Awards” were presented by Mat Dirjish, Executive Editor of Sensors.  The ENGINEERING TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD was presented to MicroGen Systems, SoftMEMS, Open Engineering, CorSolutions, Deep Run Design, X-FAB MEMS Foundry GmbH and MicroNit Microfluidics. The RISING STAR AWARD was presented to Raj Bridgelall, Program Director, Center for SMARTse, North Dakota State University. The Gold Application Award was presented to VERASENSE Knee System, the Silver to IMI Sensors  for their EchoPlus Wireless Junction Box, the Bronze to Analog Devices  for their ADuCM350 high-precision, low power meter on a chip and the Honorable Mention to Freescale Semiconductor, Sensor Solutions Division for their Xtrinsic Sensor Fusion for Kinetics MCUs.  The Gold Innovation Award was presented to ams AG for their AG- SL900A EPC Sensor Tag and Data Logger IC, the Silver to LORD MicroStrain for their 3DM-GX4-25 Sensor, Model 6234-4220 and Honorable Mentions awards were presented to Omega Engineering for their M12LCP Thermocouple Probes With High Temperature M12 Molded Connectors and Meggitt Sensing Systems Measurement Group for their Endevco Model 7253D Triaxial ISOTRON Acceleromete. Congratulations to all of the winners.

“We were excited to recognize these outstanding vendors and individuals that have demonstrated excellence in sensing,” said Dirjish. “All of these recipients, as well as all the nominees, showed exceptional imagination and innovation which has led to exemplary success within the sensors industry.”

Since 1986, Sensors Expo has been the only industry event in North America exclusively focused on sensors and sensor-integrated systems, providing over 28 years of technical innovation and thought leadership.
